Emily’s Story

Emily Brooks-Wilkening discovered her passion for writing and editing at an early age, deeply connecting with English and Literature classes beginning in Elementary School. Reading fiction novels became one of her favorite pastimes as a child, which expanded to reading novels and rhetorical pieces across several genres as a teenager and in adulthood.

Ready for a new adventure, she attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and earned a degree in Business Administration. Here, she nurtured her love of literature and rhetoric by mixing honors and political science classes into her business curriculum.

Emily began her professional career in the technology industry, working as a Sales Administrator, then as a Cybersecurity Analyst and Technical Writer. Eventually, Emily made the bold leap into beginning her own practice, where she provides freelance writing, copywriting, editing, and proofreading services.

Today, in addition to acting as a freelance writer, Emily is working towards earning her Master’s Degree in English Literature from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
